Chimichurri made simple
Chimichurri is a vibrant and tangy sauce, originating from Argentina and Uruguay. It is often used to accompany grilled meats, and is a simple recipe to make that is bursting with fresh flavors.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup fresh parsley (packed)
- 3-4 cloves garlic (peeled)
- 2 tablespoons fresh oregano (or 1 tablespoon dried oregano)
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for extra tang)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro (optional, for additional flavor)
Step 1 :
Finely chop the parsley, garlic, and oregano. If you’re using cilantro, chop it finely as well. Traditional chimichurri is made by hand, but you can also use a food processor for a finer texture. Mix the Ingredients:
Step 2 :
In a medium bowl, combine the chopped parsley, garlic, oregano, and cilantro if using.
Step 3 :
Add the red wine vinegar, lemon juice (if using), and red pepper flakes. Mix well. Add the Olive Oil:
Step 4 :
Slowly pour in the olive oil while stirring until the mixture is well-combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let it Marinate:
Step 5 :
For the best flavor, let the chimichurri sit at room temperature for at least 15-30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together.
Serve:
Chimichurri can be served immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. It pairs wonderfully with grilled steak, chicken, or vegetables.
